Civil engineering and geotechnical application

Unique properties of fiber-optic sensors allow them to be used in many civil engineering and geotechnical application. The basic advantage is that it is a passive sensor, this means in practice, they do not need power supply from the mains or batteries and are connected to the measuring unit, only by the optical cableAs information is delivered from the sensors to the reading unit  via  optical fiber, distancebetween sensor and unitcan be up to tens of kilometers. Added to this are the properties typical for fiber optic solutions, such as dielectric nature of the sensors, which solve problem of effects like storm – function is  not affected by electromagnetic radiation, sensors have long life, nearly maintenance-free operationeasy installation, small sizeetc. Also building of large sensor networks  which are monitored from a single supervisory center are typical for this technology and what more, such networks  can use already installed fiber-optic communication networks.

Safibra offers various solutions for the construction industry and geotechnical engineering.
