FBG sensors & detectors

Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors and detectors are optical structures recorded within the core of a standard optical fiber. They work on a basic principle of reflecting a narrow bandwith of light, which responds to wavelenght changes caused by temperature and/or strain. Apart from the most common temperature and strain measurements, the FBG sensors and detectors can also measure many other physical parameters, such as deformation, pressure, vibration, inclination, displacement etc. and be widely used in many monitoring applications.

The main difference between these two structures lies in their purpose of use. The FBG sensors are designed to provide highly accurate measurements of the monitored parameters whereas the FBG detectors are used in monitoring applications to keep track of the development of the object's state.

Both of them are most often used in harsh and industrial environemntal conditions as an alternative to traditional electrical and mechanical sensors or detectors. Compared to their more conventional counterparts, FBG structures offer numerous significant advantages.

It is especially higher accuracy of measurementsimmunity to electromagnetic radiation, smaller dimensions, fast response time and long lifetime. Our customers benefit also from their passive character, as there is no need of electricity connection at the measurement point. Connection of sensors and/or detectors is provided simply by a standard fiber optic telecommunication cable.
