GEO-strain

We propose research and development of measurement system based on BOTDR principle and its variations (Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) for detection and monitoring of critical areas of geotechnical constructions mainly in underground structures, mining industry and in other engineering constructions. Common monitoring methods require expensive and slow manual measurements. Fibre optical BOTDR systems will provide new information on behaviour of construction as a whole and determine its critical areas, which can not be detected in advance now. Observation of deformation development and its locations will be done at kilometre-long sections from one readout point.

Fibre optic signal transfer has low power consumption, is cost effective and operates without local power supply at the place of measurement. The long-term real-time monitoring of geotechnical construction is proposed with use of one technology also for structural health monitoring during the building and life time phase.
